Gelato World Tour Brings Artisan Deliciousness to Chicago

Before you hit the Beyoncé concert this weekend, stop by Millennium Park (Chase Promenade South – Millennium Park 188 E Monroe St.) and check out the Gelato World Tour; a tasty festival which includes a competition traveling worldwide to determine the world’s best gelato.

This weekend’s event, which is free and open to the public from 12:00 PM noon until 8:00 PM, runs from May 27-29, and will feature gelato produced from artisans across North and South America (and yes, Chicago is representing). If looking at the gelato is not enough, you can purchase a $10 ticket (CLICK HERE) that will allow you to taste eight selections and vote on your favorite. The top three winners go on to complete globally at the Grand Finale of the Gelato World Tour in Italy.

Authentic Italian gelato (which is going to be the next hot thing, just watch), is made fresh mostly everyday, is sold directly to the public, has less fat and calories than ice cream, is not severed as cold as ice cream (so the flavor profile really shines though), and is available in a plethora of sweet and savory flavors. So basically, when you see Häagen-Dazs gelato in the store, just know it is not the same thing.

A dinner with gelato pairings at Piccolo Sogno was part of the Chicago launch, and it was mind-blowing…especially the savory items like the olive gelato paired with beef short ribs. Yep.

Think you are hungry for gelato now? Well, check out the video below…we go back in Piccolo Sogno’s kitchen (so you can see what is possible). To get you even more excited, we also preview some of the specially designed flavors you can expect to taste this weekend at the festival.

As I really am all about you checking out this trend, I will be giving away two tasting tickets for this weekend. Just respond in the comments with your favorite flavor, and your Twitter or Instagram handle, in order to enter. We will be selecting the winners Saturday morning!

FYI, GWT is even doing a giveaway of some cool prizes like hotel stays and iPad minis. Treats and swag? Sounds like a plan. CLICK HERE for more information on the goodies.

Yours in fun xoxo!
